My Erasmus Experience: Haris Bandić
As part of our ongoing efforts to promote IUS exchange students whose mobility was facilitated by the International Relations Office, we are excited to share another story from Germany. Meet Haris Bandić, a 21-year-old Economics student at the International University of Sarajevo (IUS).
A Journey to Germany
My name is Haris Bandić, and I am currently in my third year of studies, pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Economics. Participating in the Erasmus exchange program has been one of the most memorable highlights of my academic journey. I had the privilege of spending my Erasmus semester in Ludwigshafen, Germany, studying at the Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft Ludwigshafen (Ludwigshafen University of Business and Society).
The university left a very positive impression on me. It boasts a modern, well-equipped campus, and the staff were incredibly helpful and supportive. The lectures were interactive, emphasizing real-world applications through case studies and group projects. Professors were approachable and encouraged active participation, which made the learning experience engaging and enjoyable.
Academic Differences
One key difference I observed was the classroom size. At IUS, classrooms are generally larger compared to those in Ludwigshafen. However, the most notable difference was the structure of the academic workload. At IUS, the semester is paced with quizzes, midterms, and finals, keeping students consistently engaged. In contrast, at Ludwigshafen, the semester felt more relaxed, with only small projects or assignments before the final exam. However, since the final exam carried most of the weight, the exam period was much more intense and stressful.
Exploring Germany
I made the most of my free time by exploring Ludwigshafen and nearby cities like Mannheim, Heidelberg, and Frankfurt. I attended cultural events, visited museums, and indulged in local cuisine. University-organized activities were also a great way to connect with other students, build friendships, and create lasting memories.
